Terms & Conditions
These terms govern your use of the platform. The competition itself is governed by the Official Competition Rules. If the two conflict on a competition matter, the rules win.
Use your real details. One account per person. Your work stays yours; you give us permission to show it in the gallery and around the competition. Don't post anything harmful. Be decent. The long version follows.
1.Who can use the platform
Anyone may browse the public pages and gallery. Creating an account is limited to eligible learners as defined in the competition rules. Voting is limited to people with a South African mobile number who are not registered entrants.
2.Accounts
2.1 You sign in with your mobile number and a one-time PIN. There are no passwords. Keep your phone secure; anything done through your verified number is treated as done by you.
2.2 The information you register with must be true and current. False information (a wrong grade, a school you don't attend, someone else's number) is grounds for removal from the competition.
2.3 One account per person.
3.Your content and intellectual property
3.1 You own your work. The website you build, your pitch video, and your idea remain yours. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership to Zaio.
3.2 By submitting, you grant Zaio a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, snapshot, display, and reproduce your submission (the site snapshot, video, title, and theme) on the platform, in the public gallery, in competition communications, and in coverage of the competition, for the duration of the competition and for up to 24 months afterwards. Safeguarding display options (rule 3.4) apply to this licence.
3.3 This licence does not allow Zaio to sell your work or claim it as its own. If Zaio wants to use your work beyond the competition context, it will ask you (and your parent, if you are under 18) separately.
3.4 You can choose safeguarding display options at any time: first name only, hide your school name. These apply everywhere your submission appears on the platform.
3.5 The Zaio and Build Challenge names, logos, and platform design belong to Zaio and its partners. Don't reuse them without permission.
4.Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Upload content that is unlawful, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, violent, or that infringes anyone's rights
- Include another person's personal information in your submission without their consent
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the platform, other accounts, or the judging or voting systems
- Use bots, scripts, or automation against the platform, including for voting
- Misrepresent your identity, age, grade, or school
Breach of this section can mean removal of content, disqualification, account closure, and where the law requires it, a report to authorities.
5.The AI building tool
The credit code for [AI TOOL PARTNER] is provided free for the competition. Your use of that tool happens on the partner's platform under the partner's own terms and privacy policy. Codes expire at the submission deadline; your submitted site is snapshotted by us, so judging and the gallery do not depend on the tool after you submit.
6.Platform availability
We aim to keep the platform up throughout the competition, and we publish status updates if something breaks. We are not liable for outages of third-party services (mobile networks, the AI tool, hosting providers) outside our control, but the competition rules provide for deadline extensions where a platform failure prevents entry.
7.Liability
Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Subject to that, the platform is provided as-is for a free competition, and Zaio is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of it.
8.Changes and termination
We may update these terms; material changes are posted here with a new version and date, and registered users are notified. You can close your account at any time by contacting hello@zaio.io; closing an account before the deadline withdraws your entry.
9.General
These terms are governed by South African law. If any clause is unenforceable, the rest stand. Questions: hello@zaio.io.
